The Dukan Diet
The Dukan Method is a high protein, low fat, low carb diet - a healthy eating plan based on proteins and
vegetables, 100 foods in total. And what's best, it's "eat as much as you like."
This diet is much more than a quick fix. It is a plan, a plan to get you to your ideal weight and then keep you
there for life.
What gives the Dukan Diet Plan the power to be a life-long
plan?
There is never any counting. The plan is set up with 100
foods that you can eat. And even better you can eat as many and as much as you need to be satisfied.
The foods are natural and easy to find. You can get most at any restaurant, so your night life doesn‟t
need to screech to a halt because you are losing or maintaining your weight.
The foods are wholesome and good for you. The plans emphasis is on low-fat proteins and no-fat dairy.
We have all read the studies that show both of these are very healthy choices.
The Dukan diet plan redesigns your eating habits and helps to permanently stabilize your weight.
It is true the Dukan Diet does not promote or promise exceptional weight loss in lightening quick time.
But equally as true and most important is that it focuses on helping you reach your True Weight, a realistic
attainable and maintainable weight that you will be able to remain at for the rest of your life.
This goal is accomplished through four phases:
Phase 1 - ATTACK The Attack phase is the kick-start to the diet. It consists of pure
protein. You can eat 68 high-protein foods, in this phase. These proteins were chosen based on their ability to
produce immediate and noticeable weight loss.
Phase 2 - CRUISE You add 32 vegetables in the Cruise phase. In this phase you will be
taken to your True Weight. Gradually and steadily by alternating Pure Protein days and Protein + Vegetables days
you will continue to lose weight. The usual period of time spent in this phase is based on three days per pound. So
you will remain in this phase for three days for every pound you want to lose.
Phase 3 - CONSOLIDATION Remember the weakness of the other diets? When you lose the
weight there is nothing to help you maintain. You go off the diet and quickly pack on the pounds with interest. The
Dukan Plan uses the Consolidation phase to prevent the rebound effect. In this phase you gradually return
previously forbidden foods to your diet and enjoy two “celebration" meals per week. This phase follows a strict
time-line of 5 days for every pound lost in Cruise Phase.
Phase 4 - PERMANENT STABILIZATION This is the phase that really sets the Dukan Diet
apart from the rest. This phase is the rest of your life! By now you have learned how to eat healthily and have
developed a pattern to follow. There are only three simple, but non-negotiable, rules to follow to keep your new
slim body:
1. Consume 3 Tablespoons of oat bran per day.
2. Choose to take the stairs whenever possible.
3. Have a pure-protein Thursday, i.e. Attack Phase menu.
It all sounds good, but who is this Pierre Dukan? Why should you believe him?
Who is Dr. Pierre Dukan?
Dr. Dukan is a French medical doctor. He started his profession as a general practitioner and specialized as a
neurologist for paraplegic children.
Dr. Dukan had a professional and life changing experience over thirty-five years ago.
He had been treating a patient he describes as an obese, jovial, and tremendously cultivated man who had asthma.
This gentleman visited Dr. Dukan one day and expressed his trust in the good doctor, then asked him to help him
lose weight.
Initially Dr. Dukan refused with the explanation he knew very little about the intricacies of dieting.
The large man was insistent citing that he had lost over 700 pounds during his life and put them all back on, and
was afraid for his life.
Dr. Dukan relented at the thought of this man‟s fear for his life.The man was desperate, he would agree to
anything the good doctor ordered. Except, he would not give up eating meat. And there was no negotiating.
Dr. Dukan agreed and told the man to eat all the meat he wanted, as long as it was lean and he only ate meat. The
man was also to drink as much water as he could during the initial 5 day test.
The results were astounding. Dr. Dukan expanded the diet for the next step…
Without giving away the whole story you sure should know that this was the basis of Phase 1 - Attack Phase of
the current Dukan Diet Plan.
